Background:

Reorganisation of schools in 1978 created Druridge Bay Middle in the semi-rural Hadston and Broomhill area. The school moved in 1981 to a former high school building, thereby inheriting superior facilities. The two-storey building is set back from the road and is surrounded by trees and hedges. The school has excellent sporting facilities including football, hockey and cricket pitches, netball courts, a full size athletics track, a purpose-built gymnasium and a multi purpose hall. An information and communications technology suite provides an internet connection. Art display, music and drama are established features of school life and are recognised in the community. Weekly tuition is available in brass, woodwind, guitar and string instruments, and children are encouraged to work with amateur and professional musical groups. The school aims to create a happy learning environment in which to raise pupils self-esteem so that their full potential can be attained.
