Background:

Newminster Middle School is a nine to 13 school in Morpeth, Northumberland. It was built in 1944 and has had significant work carried out to improve its facilities. In 2001 a new state of the art ICT suite of 32 workstations was built. The room is air-conditioned and has an interactive whiteboard facility. A new ICT suite was established in 2001. The school also has a video-conferencing facility for use with groups of children. The school has an excellent reputation in the creative and expressive arts area. It has a large and successful orchestra and it also boasts several energetic choirs, which perform nationally as well as locally. Many children enjoy drama and dance activities and have the opportunity to engage in live performances. There is a wide range of sporting opportunities for children. An extensive programme of inter-house competitions is arranged each year including football, netball, cross-country, athletics, basketball and swimming. The school has a full and comprehensive programme of residential and outdoor visits. The school aims to foster academic and personal development in a caring and challenging environment so that each individual can achieve his or her potential.
