Background:
Originally founded in 1310; received school charter from the King in 1552; serves the market town of Morpeth and a large part of rural Northumberland. The grounds contain a wooded 30-acre site with playing fields, a dry ski-slope, an all-weather hockey pitch and 10 hard tennis courts. Other facilities include two gymnasia and the school's own outdoor pursuit's centre in the Cheviots. The school offers the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. Links with business and industry are co-ordinated by the school-industry committee and every year the group is involved in major problem-solving, work-related activities, supported by local businesses and universities. More than 3,000 members of the local community use the school's facilities every week. The school has combined Specialist Performing Arts College and Technology College Status; Beacon Status (2002); Investor in People Status (1996); DfES Achievement Award (2001); Leading Edge Status.
